This is Mabry Mill. It is located on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. The mill, driven by a water wheel driven by water, is still functional and can grind (mill) grain. Located nearyby is the Mabry Mill Restaurant which seasonally opens and still serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
This picture, taken on a foggy morning in the Blue Ridge Mountains, is significant and posted here because it was taken a few years ago. It contains many trees that are no longer there. Felled by storms, ice and wind, and also cut down by the Park Service itself, the mill grounds no longer look like it did here. In fact, it now looks dramatically bare in comparison.
Still, Mabry Mill remains what is probably the biggest attraction along the 469-mile long parkway. It just doesn't look the same. 7564-66 #brpart #blueridgeart #carmichaelart
