A lone fisherman, silhouetted by the rising sun, fishes next to Frisco Pier at Frisco on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This picture is available in traditional fine art photography and black & white versions; 3759
Unfortunately, since this photograph was taken Frisco Pier exists no more. Or rather, remnants of it exist. A hurricane turned tropical storm swept over the Outer Banks and destroyed it. A large section near the end is missing, plus many of the support pilings. The owner sought funds from the federal government to help with repair and restoration, but as of this writing was unable to get help. Unfortunately, Frisco Pier appears to be going the way of many other piers in the past on the North Carolina coast: destroyed by storms and never rebuilt.
