I discovered these beautiful flowers on the Blue Ridge Parkway a number of years back and try to visit and photograph them every year. They bloom in the summer during July to August. They are tall and colorful and I have found only one place on the 469 mile parkway where a patch of them can be found. I suspect seeds were planted there one year. They attract butterflies and especially bumble bees.
